Thermal Straightening

Thermal Straightening is the most talked about retexturing service in the beauty world today. This service takes the most unruly, frizzy curls and smoothes them into the sleek, shiny locks you've always dreamed of. Thermal Straightening or Reconditioning (as its also known) is a process by which the protein bonds that create your hair's natural texture are broken down, deeply conditioned and reformed by a trained stylist, with the use of chemicals and a flat iron. Ideally, Thermal Straightening clients have hair at least 6 inches long, non-chemically treated, curly, mixed texture, or frizzy hair. Candidates with hair that has been previously treated with color or other chemical services can also have this service; however, performing any retexturing service on someone with chemically treated hair does result in damage. To determine if Thermal Straightening is right for you, a consultation is required. This allows you to ask the stylist questions and communicate your ideas, as well as allows the stylist to assess your hair's health, density, growth patterns, and overall reaction to the straightening process. The consultation is also the time when the stylist will determine an estimated cost and amount of time necessary to perform the service.

Here are a few key pieces of information you should consider when scheduling your Thermal Straightening service. o Thermal Straightening is Permanent. Your hair will remain straight. o Thermal Straightening is only performed by a trained stylist. o The process takes between 4 and 6 hours depending on your hair. o Prices for this service start at $500. First time applications are often more because of added time and more use of product. If price is a concern for you please address it at the consultation. o Hair that has been Thermally Straightened must stay completely dry for 72 hours following the service. Moisture in the hair can result in frizz, lumpy curl or the hair reverting back to its natural state. o The hair may not be put in clips, ponytails or headbands for 72 hours following the service. To do so may result in permanent "ponytail bumps" or clip lines in the hair. o You must use aftercare products appropriate for your hair, as advised by your stylist, to keep your hair healthy. o Your straightening service will last anywhere between 4 to 12 months, depending on your curl pattern, before you need to have it retouched. o Your straightened hair will be easily styled in a fraction of the time with only a dryer and brush!
